The Basics of Christianity

Welcome to Christianity 101!

Whether you've found this page searching for answers or stumbled upon it by accident, you’re in the right place.

Often times, people ask “What’s Christianity about?” only to find that many people are unable to answer such a fundamental question. That being said, here are the basics of Christianity:

1. There is only one God. He is our heavenly Father and the creator of the universe. Muslims might claim Christians believe in multiple Gods, other religions might claim you can believe in them all and be fine, and some might claim there is no God period, but the reality remains, there is only one true God. So then if there is only one “true” God, how can I know which God is the real God? Answer: Through the Bible.

2. The Bible is how God communicated, communicates, and will continue to communicate with us, his creation. The Bible is the word of God, and will continue to be so both now and forevermore (Hebrews 13:8). The characteristics of God, the creation of the world, our purpose, conflicts, and the future all the way to the end of the age are all revealed in the Bible. God didn’t just create the world and leave it as is contrary to what some people may think. He indeed loves us and gave us all the answers we need through his Word (Bible).

3. God made a way for us (broken humanity) to know Him and attain eternal life in the perfect world we all yearn for. He did that by coming to earth through Jesus our Messiah a little over 2000 years ago. Jesus was born, lived a life we all live here and now, and was crucified on the cross paying the penalty of sin we all deserve, although he did nothing to deserve it (Romans 5:8). If we believe in Jesus (who he was and what he did for us) and then repent and genuinely apologize for our sinful life and behavior before God, he will forgive our sins, create in us a new life, and grant us eternal life (John 3:16)

Bottom Line

The reality is that many of us think we are innocent before God or have nothing to apologize for. However, the Bible tells us all of humanity stand guilty before God and deserve punishment before Him (Romans 6:23). The good news is, God is rich in mercy and will forgive our iniquities if we repent before Him.

Of course there’s much more to Christianity but these are the basics and if you can believe in these 3 things, you can enter into God’s presence and become a beloved child of our heavenly Father.
